BELLS AND WAVES WINNER OF THE SMFF AWARD 2011 AS THE BEST  CONTEMPORARY MUSIC WORK OF THE YEAR


Bells and Waves was commissioned by New Ensemble as a part of his residency there and premiéred last year at the White Crow Music Festival in Leiden, Holland and won recently the SMFF Award as ”The most significant contemporary music work of the year” in the category chamber music. The award ceremony was held at Berns salonger in Stockholm on November 11th. Watch Staern’s acceptance speech right here!

JUBILATE SELECTED BY THE SWEDISH SECTION OF ISCM


Jubilate for symphony orchestra has been selected by the Swedish section of ISCM (International Society of Contemporary Music) as one of twelve contributions prior to the selection round of World Music Days 2012 in Belgium by an international jury.

COMPOSER-IN-RESIDENCE AT NEW EUROPEAN ENSEMBLE

Staern has become a composer-in-residence at the New European Ensemble in The Hague and will span three years starting this September. He will work closely with the ensemble's musicians and music director Christian Karlsen. Staern is working on a new large scale composition for ensemble to be premiered at the White Crow Music Festival Leiden this coming November.

NEW EUROPEAN ENSEMBLE TOURS WITH TRANSTRÖMERSÅNGER


For its first visit to Sweden, the New European Ensemble has commissioned an extended version of the song-cycle Tranströmersånger. The ensemble originally premiered the work at the Schönberg Festival, The Hague in 2009. The world premiere of the new version will take place in Västerås Concert Hall on the 9th of October with subsequent performances in Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmö.

The performance in Malmö will form part of the Connect Festival.

SUCCESS FOR JUBILATE IN GLASGOW, SCOTLAND


Jubilate, originally commissioned work by the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra received its UK premiere to a sold out concert audience in Glasgow, City Halls. The BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra was conducted by the piece’s dedicatee Stefan Solyom. The performance were later broadcasted on BBC Radio 3.

BENJAMIN STAERN RECEIVES SWEDISH GRAMMIS AWARD FOR BEST CLASSICAL ALBUM OF THE YEAR


The album Sonanza Unheard of - Again containing Nattens djupa violoncell perfomed by Swedish star alto Anna Larsson with Sonanza Ensemble was awarded Best Classical Album of the Year 2009 during the Swedish Grammis Gala in Stockholm. The CD is released on the label Phono Suecia (PSCD 180) and be ordered here!
